Multiple Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University has three openings for tenure-track faculty members and one Visiting Professor position to start in August 2021. Two of the tenuretrack positions are available at the Assistant Professor level with research specializations involving smart and sustainable manufacturing (TTM) and/or renewable energy (TTE). The third tenure-track position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and reserved for candidates bringing NSF or NIH funding in the above areas and/or human-machine systems (TTH). Although we expect candidates to have research concentrations as noted above, we will consider applicants who demonstrate a track record of convergent research combining mechatronics, robotics, or control systems with manufacturing, renewable energy, or human-machine systems.

The visiting position (VP) is for one year, renewable for up to two additional years. The selected candidate will be required to teach courses in the broader areas of mechanical engineering, with special needs in solid mechanics, design, and thermal/fluids science. Candidates for the VP position must hold an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and an earned Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related discipline with a degree conferred on or before July 1, 2021. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills, the potential for industry collaboration, and an ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.

TT candidates are expected to continue or develop an externally-funded research program and teach courses to meet the needs of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. They must hold an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and an earned doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related discipline with a degree conferred on or before July 1, 2021. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity in their research areas.

Applicants must submit:

  1. a cover letter indicating their intended application code (TTM, TTH, TTE, or VP) and their qualifications
  2. curriculum vitae (including names and email addresses of at least three professional references)
  3. teaching statement
  4. research statement (for TT positions) https://hrjobs.csuohio.edu/postings/13573
  5. diversity statement (in “other documents”) through the Human Resources website:
