Want to be an EPT?
The Engineering Peer Teachers (EPTs) are a branch of the Washkewicz Peer Teachers (WPTs). We cover core Engineering (ESC, EEC, MET) and Computer Science (CIS) courses through Recitations and Sessions. Both are designed to give students additional time to ask questions, collaborate with others, and prepare for assessments in the course. As of Fall 2024, we currently cover:
- ESC 201: Statics
- ESC 211: Strength of Materials
- ESC 250: Differential Equations
- ESC 282: Engineering Economy
- ESC 310: Engineering Stats and Probability
- EEC 310: Electric Circuits 1
- CIS 151: Invitation to Computing
- CIS 260: Intro to Programming
- CIS 265: Data Structures and Algorithms
- MET 320: Mechanics of Materials
Recitations and Sessions
A Recitation is a mandatory, once weekly class scheduled in CampusNet to accompany the main course. In Recitations, material is reinforced through interactive, engaging learning activities. EPT Recitation Assignments, or ERAs, are collaborative activities that will be administered randomly throughout the semester and will be scored. These scores make up 10% of the main course's grade.
A Session is an optional, semi-weekly time where, similar to Recitations, material is reinforced through engaging activities. While these are not required nor scheduled through CampusNet, some professors may offer incentives for attendance.
Position Responsibilities
- Engage students in interactive activities to review specific engineering course material once (Recitations) or twice (Sessions) per week for 50-60 minutes in person and/or online
- Integrate review strategies during EPT Recitations/Sessions to enable students to excel in their courses
- Take lecture notes and prepare Recitation/Session plans
- Communicate with students and professors via Discord, email, or other means
- Participate in biweekly, full team meetings during Tuesday Common Hour (11:30 - 12:20pm) and weekly group meetings (30 minutes) with your respective EPT group
- Engage in required 3-day training sessions that take place the week before the semester starts
- Model ideal student behavior while facilitating learning by providing an engaging and inclusive working environment with strong emphasis on building professional relationships with students and other EPTs
- Contribute to a friendly and productive learning environment
Qualifications
Potential EPTs must:
- Be a current CSU student (we accept international and graduate students)
- Pass the class you desire to EPT for with at least an A-
- Be a communicative and collaborative team member
