The Order of the Engineer and The Pledge of the Computing Professional
Every spring, prior to graduation, Engineering students are eligible to participate in the The Order of the Engineer Awards Ceremony and Dinner. This is an honorable recognition as students take an oath to their obligation as a promise to their integrity and ethics in the engineering field. The event will take place on Thursday, April 6, 2017 i the Studet Center Ball room at 5:30 p.m. Students and their family and friends are encouraged to attend.
This year, we are excited to incorporate the Pledge of the Computing Professional. This organization was inspired by the Order of the Engineer and held its first induction ceremonies at Ohio Northern University, University of South Florida and McNeese State University in May 2011. The Washkewicz College of Engineering applied for, and was granted, Charter Membership into the Pledge of the Computing Professional spring 2017.
The Computing Professional students receives a sacred pin in ASCII, translated to "Honor". The Order of the Engineer students receive a steel ring symbolic of thier oath.
Graduating seniors from the current spring and upcoming summer or fall semester is eligible to participate. The eligibility by major is as follows:
- All Engineering majors except MET and Computer Science are eligible for the Order of the Engineer
- Computer Science majors are eligible for the Pledge of the Computing Professional only
