Fall 2026 Ceremony
The Fall 2026 Ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2026 in the Student Center Ballroom. The doors will open at 8:30am and the event will begin at 9:30am.
The morning ceremony includes the hooding of WCE Master's Thesis students, honoring of departmental Valedictorians and the college Valedictorian, proclamation of oaths, signing of certificates, presentation of rings and pins, photos, and breakfast.
Induction into the Order of the Engineer and the Pledge of the Computing Professional
The Hooding & Induction Ceremony marks the transition of our WCE students from academic study to professional practice. This celebratory event takes place on the morning of fall and spring University Commencement Dates. During this ceremony, we invite families and friends to celebrate the achievements of our graduates and emphasize the ethical responsibilities and societal impact of their chosen professions. Graduates will take solemn oaths that affirm their commitment to integrity, responsibility, and service to humanity.
Students receiving degrees from the Washkewicz College of Engineering are eligible to participate in the following Induction Activities:

Hooding Ceremony
The Hooding Ceremony honors our Master's Thesis students by having them hooded by their Faculty Advisor and Department Chair in a special ceremony prior to Commencement.
All Master's Thesis students graduating in Fall 2026 are eligible to participate.
Induction Ceremony
The Order of the Engineer
On June 4, 1970, students and faculty of the Fenn College of Engineering launched a new organization committed to professional responsibility based upon each participant accepting an obligation: individually pledging themselves to a lifetime of unwavering commitment to the ethical practice of engineering while upholding devotion to the standards and dignity of the engineering profession. It was, and remains today, a formal recognition of two basic principles — namely that the primary purpose of engineering is service to the public, and that all engineers share a common bond. Since 1970, over 500,000 individuals have proudly accepted this obligation.
The Steel Ring (or Order of the Engineer Ring) Ceremony in the United States was actually first held at Cleveland State University in the Washkewicz (then Fenn) College of Engineering on June 4, 1970. Nearly 170 students and faculty members participated. Since that time it has been adopted by several other engineering colleges throughout the United States. Ring ceremonies are conducted by Links (local sections) of the Order; there are currently 189 links in the United States and Washkewicz College is Link 1. Cleveland State's Washkewicz College of Engineering has inducted more than 1700 engineers.
The Obligation that students recite at the ceremony is a creed which sets forth an ethical code of conduct for engineers. Students pledge to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession and to serve humanity by making efficient use of the world's resources. The Pledge of the Computing Professional
"The Pledge of the Computing Professional is a new organization to promote the notion of computing as a recognized profession at the time of graduation for students in Computer Science and related programs. The Pledge is modeled after the Order of the Engineer– a long-standing rite-of-passage for graduates from engineering programs. The Pledge of the Computing Professional is solely intended to promote and recognize the ethical and moral behavior of graduates of computing-related degree programs as they transition to careers of service to society." The Engineer's Commitment
The Engineer's Commitment at Cleveland State University is an oath marking a student’s transition into the professional community of engineering.
