Administrative Structure

The Center Director will be Dr. Edward Keshock, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department.  Professor Keshock has had extensive professional experiences at NASA, Old Dominion University, University of Tennessee, Air Force Institute of Technology (Visiting Distinguished Professor, 1990), and Cleveland State University, spanning a period of more than forty years.  Interspersed with these experiences have been a variety of multiple long-term international experiences at universities and research institutions in Taiwan, China, Saudi Arabia, England, Slovakia (currently Honorary Consul for Slovakia in Ohio) and Russia (Fulbright Scholar, 2003).

With respect to design activity, Professor Keshock has been responsible for teaching of the Mechanical Engineering capstone design courses (Design Project I and Design Project II) for the past several years.  During that period his supervision of the student design teams have resulted in numerous excellent designs of mechanical/thermal systems, and in some cases, award- winning achievements.  Therefore, Professor Keshock is an appropriate and capable person to serve as Director (and founder) of this Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center, by virtue of his professional and academic experiences and achievements.

The Center Associate Director will be Dr. John Frater, who has excellent professional qualifications relative to this Center.

Dr. Frater has had extensive design-related experiences in both industry and academia – 20 years in industry and more than 25 years in academia.  At CSU he has served as Principal Engineer, Product Development Group, Advanced Manufacturing Center, since January 1984, and continues to be active in the product development area.  His responsibilities in that capacity include design and manufacture of prototype components, finite element analysis and other computer aided engineering applications, and transfer of technology to industry.  He has also been responsible for directing senior capstone design activity for more than twenty years, during which period his student design teams participated in head-to-head design competition with student teams from CWRU, with admirable results.  Additionally, he has had perhaps the most interactions and relationships with local, regional and national industries than any member of the department.  In brief, he is extremely well suited for the position of Associate Director of the Center .
