Sample Accelerated Program in Civil Engineering
Program Overview
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also offers an Accelerated Program that would enable students to a earn a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree as well as a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 5 years. Students are eligible to apply after they have completed sixty credit hours in their undergraduate program, with at least 30 credit hours earned at CSU. Students who are accepted for an accelerated 4+1 program may apply or transfer a maximum of 12 graduate credit hours taken while an undergraduate provided a grade of B or higher is earned in the course. No additional graduate credit hours taken as an undergraduate may be applied or transferred to the graduate record.
Admission Requirements
Prerequisites: Only enrolled CSU undergraduate Civil Engineering students are eligible to apply for the Accelerated BS/MS Program in Civil Engineering. Students are eligible to apply after they have completed sixty credit hours, with at least 30 credit hours earned at CSU. Students must apply to the program before the completion of ninety-five credit hours (including transfer credits).
Minimum G.P.A: 2.75 or higher.
Statement of Purpose: A one to two-page written career plan describing why and how this program will enhance the student's scholarly and career goals.
Degree Completion Requirements
Program Details: Students admitted to the joint five-year Bachelor/Master of Science program remain undergraduates until they meet the requirements for the bachelor's degree, at which point they will receive the BCE degree. Once admitted to the combined program, the student may complete up to 11 credit hours of graduate courses while enrolled in the undergraduate program. These 11 credit-hours will count towards BOTH the undergraduate degree and the graduate degree, either as electives or requirements, depending on course. Upon receipt of their Bachelor's degree, students who have a 3.0 or better average in their graduate courses will AUTOMATICALLY be admitted to the Graduate Program, and have up to 11 hours of graduate coursework (and grades) added to their graduate transcipts. STUDENTS MUST ATTEND THE NEXT REGULAR SEMESTER AS A GRADUATE STUDENT TO BE CONTINUED IN THE PROGRAM. As a Gradaute student, students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 to remain in the program.
Honors students
- 500-level courses are already counted as Honors Credit (16 minimum)
- Honors Project/Thesis credits can be substituted with Master's Project Credits.
