CM/PDI Summer Internship Program

Building the Next Generation of Project Delivery Leaders 

The Construction Management Program and Project Delivery Institute @ CSU invite students to participate in the CM/PDI Summer Co-op Program, a 12-week applied learning experience focused on digital construction, infrastructure, project delivery, and multidisciplinary collaboration. 

Students work in teams with faculty and industry mentors to explore real-world challenges facing the built environment. The program connects classroom learning with professional practice and helps students develop project ideas that may continue into senior design, research, internships, or industry-sponsored projects. 

Program

Duration: 12 weeks 
Format: In-person applied co-op experience 
Participants: Open for Construction Management, Civil Engineering, and all related disciplines 
Focus Areas: BIM, Revit, Autodesk Forma, Procore, Primavera P6, digital project delivery, sustainability, infrastructure, and capital project planning 
Outcome: Student teams develop applied project concepts connected to industry needs and future capstone and multidisciplinary senior design projects work. 

Three-Stage Co-op Structure

Stage 1: Digital Construction Fluency 

Weeks 1 - 4

Students build hands-on fluency with core construction technology platforms, including: 

• Revit / BIM modeling
• Autodesk Forma
• Autodesk Site Design & Simulation
• Procore
• Primavera P6
• Navisworks
• Visualization and simulation tools 

Stage 2: Industry Problem Exploration 

Weeks 5 - 8

Students work with faculty and industry mentors to identify real-world challenges that can become the foundation for multidisciplinary senior design and applied research projects. 

Possible themes include: 

• Workforce development
• Sustainable infrastructure
• Modular construction
• Digital Twins and BIM
• Project controls
• Construction law and claims
• Capital project delivery
• Resilient communities 

Stage 3: Project Development & Communication

Weeks 9 - 12

Student teams develop project scopes, research approaches, preliminary methods, and final presentations. The goal is to create strong project foundations that can continue beyond the summer. 

Deliverables may include: 

• Project concept brief
• Problem statement
• Preliminary methodology
• Literature and industry scan
• Presentation to faculty and industry mentors
• Capstone project development plan 

Why Participate?

Students gain practical experience in digital construction, project delivery and project management, multidisciplinary teamwork, and industry communication. 

Through the co-op, students will: 

• Learn tools used in modern construction and infrastructure delivery

• Explore real-world industry problems
• Prepare for internships, co-ops, senior design, and future employment
• Develop professional communication and presentation skills 

Industry & Community Insights Speaker Series

The co-op also coincides with the CM/PDI Industry & Community Insights Speaker Series where industry leaders, public agencies, owners, designers, contractors, and community partners share current challenges and opportunities in the built environment. These sessions help students understand the needs of the region and connect their project ideas to real industry priorities.
