IT Support

The Washkewicz College of Engineering Computer Specialists, Lou Dregely and Joe Ruess, and their student assistants (college IT team) are available to assist faculty and staff with your instructional needs. They can provide basic assistance with the computers in research labs, but you should talk with the software creators/vendors directly for advanced questions about software functionality and implementation of research software packages.

  • To place an order for a new computer, please follow the process at https://www.csuohio.edu/ist/computer-requests and click on the “Computer Request form” link. On the form, you need to add the necessary software that will be installed before delivery. Lou and Joe assist faculty and staff in selecting the proper office computer.
  • To request service for your existing office computer, including installing new software, please contact IS&T at 216-687-5050 or use the chat feature at gethelp.csuohio.edu. If you have issues with your computer, Lou and Joe can meet with you to do an overall troubleshooting, but in most cases only IS&T can resolve these issues.
  • For CSUNET and Xerox printing (except for printing paper), please call IS&T at 216-687-5050.
  • Requests to IS&T, including access to PeopleSoft or CampusNet tabs please contact IS&T’s Help Desk Self-service or easy.csuohio.edu to communicate your inquiry.
  • All links to contact IS&T are provided at https://www.csuohio.edu/ist. In urgent cases, Lou and Joe can be a liaison between faculty/staff and IS&T to speed up the process of resolving such issues.
  • Specific problems with instructional technology, such as Extron boxes, Elmos, or Distance Learning, should be directed to the Center for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning (CITDL) at 216-687-5050 option 8 or at instructionaltech@csuohio.edu.

Specific problems/questions about instructional technology such as ceiling projectors, solstice boxes and audio-visual equipment located in the classrooms of Fenn Hall without a lectern should be directed to the CITDL department at 1-216-687-5050 option 8.

The college IT team will help with any issue in the instructional computer labs of the college as well as with lectern issues in FH and WH. Please call 216-687-4508 and the request will be forwarded to the appropriate person of the college IT team.

The student IT assistants in FH 128 will answer your call to 216-687-4508 and:

  • Handle basic classroom needs, such as printer paper and dry erase markers.
  • Answer NetSupport questions.
  • Forward your request, as necessary, to Lou or Joe.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues in the college instructional computer labs. After normal business hours, if the task is more involved, they will contact Lou Dregely or Joe Ruess.

Lou Dregely (216-687-2598, l.dregely@csuohio.edu) will help you with any issue in the college-wide instructional computer labs (FH 127, WH 203, and WH 221) and the college servers. Lou:

  • Administers the college's computer network servers and college-wide instructional computer labs.
  • Provides technical consulting services to our departments regarding use of computers and networks to satisfy instructional and research needs.
  • Helps with the installation and configuration of office and lab computers, and maintains file servers and other related equipment, devices, and systems for the entire college.
  • Performs software and application development, installation, and upgrades in the college-wide computer labs and maintains site licenses for the college. To guarantee the software is included in the college image, it must be delivered to Lou at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the semester.
  • Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.

Joe Ruess (216-875-9790, j.ruess@csuohio.edu) will help you with any issue in the departmentally-managed instructional computer labs. and provides - at least initial - assistance with computer issues in your office and research labs. Joe:

Assists faculty/instructors, teaching assistants, and students to create access accounts to instructional software and communicates with vendor technicians or other relevant representatives to resolve hardware and software problems. (Notes for cloud-based software access: (a) For students enrolled in a course to obtain access to the software on time, the instructor should email the class roster to Joe before the semester starts. Joe will then forward the roster to the software vendor. (b) If a TA needs access to the software, the instructor may send an email to Joe connecting him with the TA as soon as the TA is assigned to the class). To guarantee the software is included in the college image, it must be delivered to Joe at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the semester.
  • Manages the Linux server, and all services provided by that server, including but not limited to the Network File System, Network Information System, E-mail, Web-Server, DNS, DHCP, CA Certificates for server authentication, and Active Directory. On the first weekend of every semester, creates the Linux accounts for all new students enrolled in classes that traditionally require Linux access. Creates accounts for the students of classes and TAs as needed.
  • Administers workstations, file servers, and related devices and systems.
  • Maintains site licenses and server-based license managers and performs license troubleshooting.
  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
  • As necessary, prepares departmentally-managed computer labs for instruction, ensuring all equipment and software is in proper working condition, and performs hands-on troubleshooting during active lab use in cases of urgent classroom support.
  • Upon request, evaluates and recommends the purchase of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • Creates and deletes, as necessary, user accounts while maintaining integrity of sensitive data.
  • Provides technical assistance (or seeks assistance from IS&T whenever necessary) on use of computers and networks to satisfy instructional and research needs.
  • Provides training to faculty, staff, and students specific to troubleshooting on engineering software. Also, trains student employees on system software.
