CLEVELAND – Cleveland State Esports is proud to spotlight the leader of its Overwatch Academy team, Gabby Palmer.

A junior from Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Palmer is a double major in Music Composition and English Creative Writing, bringing a unique mix of artistic creativity and competitive drive to the program. Competing under the gamertag "ShamWow," she serves as the team's captain and plays the "Flex Support" role—a position that requires adaptability and strong mechanical skill to keep the team alive and fighting.

Gabby’s time with the team has been defined by both competitive success and memorable bonding moments. She cites winning the NACE East Grand Finals with her team as her favorite esports achievement so far. Equally important are the fun memories made off the server, such as "playing mermaids" in the hotel pool with her teammates during the GLEC 2024 Spring Finals.

Outside of the game, Gabby’s interests are just as colorful. She loves sharks and crustaceans—even sporting a shark-themed bathroom in her dorm—and enjoys swimming, working on crafty projects, and performing in musicals.
