CLEVELAND – Cleveland State University Esports continues to prioritize the well-being of its players, recently welcoming the Cleveland Clinic back to the lab for another educational session.

The program was happy to welcome back Jason Cruickshank, a physical therapist who specializes in the unique health needs of esports athletes. While previous sessions have often focused on physical ergonomics, this semester's talk centered on the critical topic of mental health.

Cruickshank guided the Varsity and Club teams through strategies for maintaining mental resilience in a high-pressure competitive environment. Key topics included:

  • Recovering from loss: How to bounce back after a defeat.
  • Anger management: Using breathing exercises to maintain composure.
  • Imposter syndrome: Overcoming feelings of self-doubt.

The teams were actively engaged throughout the presentation, eager to learn techniques that apply both in-game and in their daily lives. The program values these regular visits and is already looking forward to welcoming the Cleveland Clinic back next semester.
