We’re Funded! Introducing RE@CSU: A New NSF REU Site in Rehabilitation Engineering

We’re thrilled to announce that Cleveland State University has been awarded a prestigious grant from the National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program to launch RE@CSU—Rehabilitation Engineering at CSU. Beginning in Summer 2026, this immersive research initiative will engage undergraduate students in the design of assistive technologies that promote mobility, independence, and inclusion for individuals with physical disabilities.

RE@CSU is especially committed to broadening participation in rehabilitation engineering—a field traditionally concentrated in urban medical research centers—by opening doors to students from varied backgrounds, including those with backgrounds in computer science, any engineering discipline of other STEM areas aligned with engineering. Students from institutions without extensive research infrastructure are encouraged to apply.. Students will work in multidisciplinary teams alongside CSU faculty, clinicians, graduate students, and community partners to tackle real-world challenges in areas like neuroprosthetics, biomechanics, assistive robotics, regenerative medicine, and wearable technology.
