Thermosolutal Convection and Macrosegregation during Directional Solidification of binary Alloys

Influence of microstructure and growth parameters on thermosolutal convection during directional solidification of binary Pb-Sn alloys is being examined to define a future low gravity experiment on space shuttle.

Processing of Metal-Matrix Composites and Their Tribological Behavior

Pressure melt infiltration technique is being used to prepare ceramic reinforced metal matrix composites for wear resistance applications. Their wear behavior is being examined in a universal wear testing machine.

Directional Solidification with in-situ Chemical Reaction

Exothermic heat generated during reaction synthesis is planned to be used to directionally solidify alloys and ceramic reinforced metal matrix composites. Numerical modelling predictions will be compared with the experimentally observed thermal profiles and the resulting microstructural development.
