Mechanical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

The program produces graduates who:

• Practice mechanical engineering in the Design, Control, and/or Manufacture of Fluid Thermal/Energy Conversion, and Machine and Living Systems, in industry and government.
• Practice mechanical engineering in environments that require a variety of roles including engineering problem definitions, application of advanced methods of analysis, problem diagnosing, and solution of real-world engineering design problems that are subject to realistic constraints such as cost, safety, etc.
• Actively contribute to a multidisciplinary engineering environment
• Enhance their knowledge beyond BS level, engage in lifelong learning, and keep current with advancements in engineering and technology.

Mechanical Engineering Program Student Outcomes

Attainment of these Student Outcomes prepares Mechanical Engineering graduates to enter the professional practice of engineering

(0)  An ability to demonstrate the principles of engineering science, college-level mathematics, and the basic sciences
(1)  An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
(2)  An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
(3)  An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
(4)  An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
(5)  An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
