Graduate Programs

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department offers a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) Program with specialization in the areas of communication systems, computer systems, control systems, nanobiotechnology and power electronics/power systems.

The ECE department also offers a Doctor of Philosophy Program (PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the MSEE Program should have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or better and a four-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, in any discipline from an accredited university. Students without a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science may be considered for admission and may be assigned preparatory courses as part of their study plan. No preparatory course may count toward the fulfillment of the graduate degree program.

Applicants for the PhD Program should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree with at least one degree in engineering. In exceptional cases, applicants may be considered without an engineering degree if they have a strong foundation in math and science. Minimum grade-point averages of 3.00 at the bachelor’s and 3.25 at the master’s level are required. The GRE General section is required of all applicants, with minimum scores at the 80th percentile on the Quantitative section and 3.5 on the Analytical Writing section, depending on the specialization area. A two-page personal statement of the applicant's research interests and two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant’s previous academic work are also required.

International students should also meet CSU English language proficiency requirements.
