Program Overview
The Chemical Engineering Doctoral Program is a specialization within the college-wide Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering program. The Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering degree is granted in recognition of high achievement in scholarship and an ability to apply engineering and/or scientific fundamentals to the solution of complex technical problems. Students are expected to pursue a broad program of study, pass all prescribed examinations, and submit an innovative, high-quality dissertation as described in the section on Degree Requirements.
Research
Faculty members are highly active in sponsored research. Our interdisciplinary research areas include Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Electrochemistry, Food Safety, Medical Devices, Nanomaterials, Reaction Engineering, and Tissue Engineering.
Interdisciplinary Projects
Doctoral students are actively involved with research and work closely with faculty members in both the Engineering of College and outside the College. The Center for Innovation in Advanced Functional Materials Lab engages in interdisciplinary research and projects.
Careers
In 2024, Chemical engineers earn a median of $121,860. Employment is projected to grow 10% from 2023-2033 and about 1,400 annual job openings are expected.
