Description

The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering offers an accelerated program that enables students to earn a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree as well as earn graduate degree credits toward a Master's of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CREDIT HOURS TO EARN AS AN UNDERGRADUATE PRIOR TO FALL ’24 = 12

Undergraduate students who are accepted into the Accelerated Master's Program (AKA 4+1) prior to Fall 2024 may earn a maximum of 12 master's credit hours, that will count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. 

NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CREDIT HOURS TO EARN AS AN UNDERGRADUATE AFTER TO FALL ’24 = 9

After Fall 2024, you may earn a maximum of master's credit hours, that will count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. 

TOTAL NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CREDIT HOURS TO EARN AS AN UNDERGRADUATE = 21

Undergraduate students can earn up to a total of twenty-one (21) master's credit hours prior to their completion of undergraduate degree. Remember, ONLY twelve (12) (or nine (9) after acceptance in Fall 2024) of the twenty-one (21) will be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. Seek email permission from contact person listed below to approve the additional nine (9) {or twelve (12)} master's credits.

NOTE: Only grades of B or higher can be transferred to the graduate record.

 

NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS NEEDED TO EARN A MASTERS IN MECHANCIAL ENGINEERING:

30 CREDITS WITH THESIS
33 CREDITS WITH DESIGN
36 WITH COURSE

When to Apply

Students who are interested in the Accelerated Master's Program (AKA 4+1) in Biomedical Engineering may submit their application upon completion of sixty-five (65) credit hours, typically at the end of the sophomore year (with at least 30 credits at CSU). This application policy also applies to transfer students who have equivalent junior status.

Admission Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (3.25 preferred)
  • Completed at least 65 credit hours of which at least thirty (30) need to be earned at CSU

Students who wish to apply to the Accelerated Master's Program in Biomedical Engineering, must complete the following:

A maximum 1500-word personal statement describing why and how this program will enhance your academic and career goals (can be uploaded or written within the application form)

Notice of Acceptance

You will be notified of the decision via email within two (2) to three (3) business days.

 

Course Selections

To see the BME courses that provide both undergraduate and graduate course credit, log into CampusNet, go to Class Search, choose a semester, and search for BME/CHE undergraduate courses that have the pink circle with the letter C inside signifying ‘combined.’

For example:

When you click on the pink circled C, you will see the current enrollment for the graduate portion of the course.

You WILL need special permission to enroll in the graduate course as an Accelerated Master’s Program student. Ask your academic advisor to submit this special permission to enroll in the combined BME/CHE graduate course.
