Program Description

The Biomedical Engineering Minor equips students with a strong foundation in key areas of the field, including essential topics and concepts in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and biomechanics.

Required Courses

For engineering majors, a minor in biomedical engineering consists of 16 credits in the program, with a grade of C or better in each course. For non-engineering majors, there could be additional pre-requisites they need to complete before being eligible to enroll in core BME courses.

  • BME 300 - Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
  • BME 302 - Biofluids/ Biotransport
  • BME 304 - Cell and Tissue Biology
  • BME 306 - Systems Physiology
  • BME 390 - Clinical Experience
  • BME 430 - Biomedical Signals and Instrumentation

Elective Courses

For chemical engineering majors, BME 304 is exempt as they would have taken ESC 301 - Fluid Mechanics and CHE 306 - Transport Phenomena. BME elective course(s) can then be selected from the list below to complete the remaining requirements for BME minor. Below are a few suggested courses:

  • BME 451 - Biomechanics
  • BME 452 - Tissue Engineering
  • BME 455 - Biomaterials
  • BME 459 - Medical Imaging
