ELITE Student FAQs

  • Who can apply to the program?
    • Beginning summer 2026, all students in the College of Engineering will be able to apply! We encourage those that are prepared to balance a robust schedule of work and classes simultaneously and those that are driven to partner with a company for up to 4 years to gain on-the-job skills and credentials.
  • What companies will be involved in the program?
    • There are several medium and large companies throughout the Cleveland area who are participating. A full list will be provided closer to participant application time.
  • How is the program different from Internships and Co-Ops?
    • The program offers students the opportunity to work in a company and grow their skills while earning their degree over a sustained period of time. This program is geared towards students who are passionate about a specific industry and wish to grow in one company.  
  • What will their work schedule look like?
    • Students will work closely with the Program Manager, their Academic Coaches, and their employer to map out their yearly schedule. While applying and interviewing, students will discuss their hours and availability with the hiring manager.
  • Why does the program require a minimum number of on-the-job hours?
    • Total hours in each pathway are determined by time needed to acquire appropriate skills and training to succeed in the company.
  • Will I be guaranteed a position in the program?
    • While a placement is not guaranteed, the program is designed to create ongoing opportunities for students and companies to match.
  • What if my position is not a good fit?
    • We encourage students to work with the Program Manager and your employer to resolve any issues that arise. Several remediation steps must be taken before a separation and replacement can be approved.
